Healthy Skin Care: Anti Aging Skin Tips

anti-aging-tips-article2In our quest to win the battle against pre-mature aging we are constantly searching for products and treatments that will maintain the youthful qualities of our skin. Some of the more serious external factors that can increase the loss of skin integrity are; overexposure to the sun, stress, smoking, pollution, and bad eating habits. The good news is that by combining the latest research in skin technology with some of the best home-remedy secrets, we can help prevent premature aging such as wrinkles and age spots.

Some of these recent findings in skin care include effective anti-aging ingredients that claim to have positive results. Active ingredients such as; L-ascorbic acid (topical ester vitamin C), liposome technology, kojic acid, hyaluronic acid, lipids and vitamin B, lighten dark spots, increase elasticity, hydrate, promote cell renewal and can reduce fine lines. However, some of these will only work on the surface layer of the skin while others have the ability to penetrate deeper. Try avoiding products that contain hydroquinone, this is a chemical that only bleaches skin on the surface.

“Topical Vitamin C can prevent the consequences of prolonged sun exposure which can lead to skin cancer,” says Karen E. Burke, MD, in a news release. “Supplementation with natural Vitamin E in 400 mg per day has been noted to reduce photo damage, wrinkles and improve skin texture.” This research has been backed up by a more recent study.

The Journal of Investigative Dermatology reported in February 2005 that people who take vitamins C and E in the long term reduced their sunburns from exposure to UVB radiation. Further, researchers saw a reduction of factors linked to DNA damage within skin cells, leading them to conclude that antioxidant vitamins help protect against DNA damage.

Try this recipe to create your own anti-aging gentle facial scrub:

2 Tbsp dry oatmeal
4 Tbsp brown rice powder
1 tsp kelp powder
1 Tbsp plain yogurt
1 tsp honey
a little water to create a spreadable paste.

Blend all ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Use this facial scrub two to three times a week. To store, place in the fridge in a closed plastic container for up to five days.

To apply, use a small amount of water and work the facial scrub all over your face in a gentle upward massaging movement. Leave this on for two to three minutes and then wash off with warm water. A patch test is recommended before full application.
