The Great Canadian Yoga Stretch: Raising Funds for Canadians with Vision Loss

Imagine living without vision, not being able to see your loved ones, or the vibrant colors that surround us on a daily basis. Today, there are 836,000 people in Canada living with significant vision loss. Over the next two decades that number is expected to double. The Canadian Institute for the Blind is helping to spread the message that the month of May is Vision Health Month.

During the month of May, anyone can visit the CNIB’s website and complete an assessment for their risk of developing eye disease, as well as learning about eye disorders and prevention.

Another way the CNIB is trying to raise money for its programs is by hosting a fundraising event called the Great Canadian Yoga Stretch, which collects donations and challenges its participants to a personal yoga stretch goal.

Ambassador of yoga Kreg Weiss eloquently comments on his affiliation and support for this very important cause.

“The Great Canadian Yoga Stretch is a fantastic opportunity to expand the benefits of Yoga throughout our communities. I am excited to join this campaign in facilitating whole wellness and inspiring others to reach their fullest life potential.”

From May 1-30th, this national yoga campaign allows anyone to participate. People who are sighted or living with vision loss, those new to yoga or a life-long yogis. The goal of the Yoga Stretch is to help people become more active and healthy, and make a difference for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted.

With the nature of your goal without limitation, this campaign challenges participants to ask themselves, “what’s my stretch goal?” Musician, Yoga Teacher and Ambassador for the Yoga Stretch, Will Blunderfield explains,

The Great Canadian Yoga Stretch not only encourages people to explore the power of yoga; …it ignites passion in people of all backgrounds to achieve exhilarating new goals!”

Funds raised in the Great Canadian Yoga Stretch will go to CNIB, helping Canadians with vision loss to enhance their independence, achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives. People can also donate $5 by texting the word CNIB to 45678. For more information, please go to www.cnib.ca or http://greatcanadianyogastretch.ca.

The nature of your goal is up to you.
